ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — A man was charged after police said he shot and killed his brother Tuesday night in north St. Louis County.
The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office charged David Hemphill, 46, with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the death of his 49-year-old brother, J. T. Hemphill.
According to the St. Louis County Police Department, officers were called just before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday to the 10600 block of Moidart Circle, near Glasgow Elementary School, for a ShotSpotter notification indicating that gunshots had been fired in the area.
Officers found J. T. Hemphill lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation revealed David Hemphill had been in a physical fight with his brother earlier in the day. Later that night, he went over to the home and continued arguing with his brother. He then shot him in the front yard, police said.
David Hemphill admitted to shooting his brother, who he knew was unarmed, police said.
The St. Louis County Police Department Bureau of Crimes Against Persons detectives assumed the ongoing investigation.
Hemphill was being held at the St. Louis County Justice Center on a $250,000 bond.
