SPANISH LAKE, Mo. — A shooting in north St. Louis County left one teen injured early Tuesday morning.
According to the St. Louis County Police Department, officers responded to a Shotspotter activation at about 12:45 a.m. Tuesday for shots fired in the 1300 block of Cabrillo Drive in Spanish Lake. There, they found a 15-year-old girl with at least one gunshot wound.
The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment, police said. There was no word on the girl's condition.
This marks two teens shot in a week span in north St. Louis County.
Just last week, a 17-year-old was shot in Glasgow Village. Khalil Stanley died at the hospital on Sunday. A 15-year-old was charged.
As a center supporting survivors, Erin Pohl with the Crime Victim Center said it's hard to grasp another teen shot.
Pohl has seen the effects firsthand.
"It's really hard for us to watch that happen. We definitely are seeing more victims that we deal with being affected by gun violence in their community," Pohl added. "That ripple effect will stay with them for a long time."
This violence comes exactly one week after the U.S. Surgeon General's advisory declaring firearm violence a public health crisis.
Pohl is grateful for the national attention on a local problem they've been seeing. The CVC'S Director of Development shares the reminder, they can help with the road to recovery.
"The main thing is to let them know there are resources here," Pohl said.
