Shooting Monday night in Cahokia Heights prompts Major Case Squad investigation

The man was found shot inside a vehicle on Renois Lane, according to the Major Case Squad.

CAHOKIA HEIGHTS, Ill — The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis was activated Monday night following a deadly shooting in Cahokia Heights.

St. Clair County sheriff's deputies responded at about 7:20 p.m. to a person shot in the 2400 block of Renois Lane. This is near Camp Jackson Road and Interstate 255. Police say they found they found a man inside of a vehicle who had been shot at least once, according to a news release from the Major Case Squad.

The victim, identified as 18-year-old Damonta T. Mosley, was taken to an area hospital. He later died, according to the release.

Investigators with the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis, with Lt. Shane Brown of the Belleville Police Department serving as deputy commander, assumed the ongoing investigation.

Since late June, three Major Case Squad investigations have come out of Cahokia Heights, according to 5 On Your Side data.

The Bullet Related Injury Clinic (BRIC) is a community-based clinic in St. Louis that helps people heal after they have been injured by a bullet. The BRIC was established to help people who are discharged from the emergency department after being shot.
