ST. LOUIS — Police were investigating after a person was fatally shot in the head Sunday night near downtown St. Louis.
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the victim was found with a gunshot wound and a firearm on his chest at about 8 p.m. inside an apartment in the 1300 block of Lucas Avenue, located in the city's Downtown West neighborhood.
Police said the victim, 25-year-old Kenneth Hughes Jr., was unconscious and not breathing.
The Homicide Division was advised, and police said investigators were handling the case as a "suspicious death." The Medical Examiner's Office responded and assumed the investigation.

The Bullet Related Injury Clinic (BRIC) is a community-based clinic in St. Louis that helps people heal after they have been injured by a bullet. The BRIC was established to help people who are discharged from the emergency department after being shot.
