A principal with St. Louis Public Schools was arrested Thursday in connection with a theft investigation.

Cornelius Green, 34, was charged with two counts of stealing $500 after an investigation found that $2,200 was stolen from a classroom where he worked.

A principal with St. Louis Public Schools was charged Friday after police said he stole money intended for a spring break field trip.

Cornelius Green, 34, was charged with two counts of stealing $500 after an investigation found that $2,200 was stolen from a classroom where he worked.

According to charging documents a woman told police that money was taken between the beginning of 2016 and March 2. She told police that the bag holding the money was locked in a closet in her office.

Then, on March 3, a woman in the auditorium of the school saw Green walk across the stage and followed him. The witness told police she saw Green unlock the closet while the other woman was on lunch duty.

That woman checked the bag after returning from the cafeteria and found that $500 more was taken.

Green was taken into custody at the St. Louis Public School's central office Thursday.

The school district said the principal was working on a special assignment and did not have contact with students.
