St. Louis prosecutors decline to issue charges in fatal shooting, citing self-defense

ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office refused charges against a man accused of fatally shooting another man in St. Louis on Saturday, citing that he acted in self-defense.

The victim was identified Friday as Van Love, 38, of Pine Lawn. 

The man police said shot Love was initially taken into custody on Wednesday. 

Police said officers responded to the shooting on the 900 block of North Kingshighway Boulevard just before 10:30 a.m. Saturday. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Love with gunshot wounds to his back and head. 

Paramedics responded and transported Love to an area hospital where he was initially listed in "critical unstable condition."

Police were notified the next day by the St. Louis Medical Examiner's Office that Love died at the hospital.
