ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — A St. Louis County police detective escaped injury after someone shot at him while he was driving in University City Tuesday afternoon.
The detective had just left the scene of a homicide investigation in Pagedale and was on his way back to St. Louis police headquarters when the shooting happened, according to a press release from the department.
He was driving south on Kingsland Avenue when someone inside a silver Ford Mustang fired shots toward the detective, striking his unmarked vehicle three times on the passenger side.
The Mustang drove off.
The department said the detective is 37 years old and has 14 years of experience working in law enforcement.
Traffic was restricted around the intersection of Kingsland and Julian avenues while the department investigated, according to its post on Twitter at 2 p.m. Around 3 p.m., the department posted that the road has reopened.
