EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. — A St. Louis man was charged with murder in connection with the deadly shooting of a 19-year-old woman in East St. Louis last month.
Cornell Irving of St. Louis was charged Friday morning in connection with the Nov. 10 deadly shooting of Trenadi Bateman. He was taken into custody with the help of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, according to a press release from St. Clair County State's Attorney James Gomric.
According to Illinois State Police, officers responded around 7:30 a.m. Friday to the 400 block of State Street to investigate a shooting.
Police said a woman was struck by gunfire after an altercation. She was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Illinois State Police is leading the investigation with help from the East St. Louis Police Department.
Irving could face up to 45 years in prison if convicted.
