ST. LOUIS — A St. Louis man was sentenced Monday to 22 years in prison for fatally shooting another man in the city’s Jeff-Vander-Lou neighborhood last year.
J B Loggins III, 41, was originally charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action and drug trafficking in the May 3, 2023, shooting death of 37-year-old Jason Palmer. He pleaded guilty to reduced charges of second-degree murder and armed criminal action as part of an agreement with prosecutors.
Loggins fatally shot Palmer on May 3, 2023 outside The Gardens at Renaissance Place apartments at 3117 Thomas St.
An argument lead to the shooting and was recorded by surveillance cameras.
Charging documents said surveillance footage showed Loggins shoot Palmer in the neck and then fire twice more after Palmer fell to the ground.
Loggins received 19 years for second-degree murder and a consecutive three-year term for armed criminal action. He apologized to Palmer’s family in court Monday.
