St. Louis man's July 19 death ruled homicide, police investigating

ST. LOUIS — The stabbing death of downtown St. Louis in July is now being investigated as a homicide.

The incident occurred on the 1500 block of Olive Street at a about 8:20 p.m. on July 19. When officers arrived, they found 62-year-old Jeffery Bell suffering from apparent stab wounds.

Police said Bell was "combative and possibly experiencing a drug overdose," but officers were able to administer Narcan and get him into an ambulance. He was rushed to the hospital, but died from his injuries.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene, and were handling the case as a death investigation. On Tuesday, the Medical Examiner's Office ruled Bell's death a homicide, changing the investigation to a homicide case.

"Further investigation into this incident coupled with the official ruling by the Medical Examiner’s Office has determined this incident to be a homicide," police said in an incident update.
