St. Louis police officer charged with assault 1 year after breaking man's jaw during arrest

Adam Feaman, 40, was charged with assault and armed criminal action in connection with an arrest caught on camera that left a man with a broken jaw.

ST. LOUIS — A St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department officer was charged with assault and armed criminal action in connection with an arrest that left a man with a broken jaw more than a year ago.

Adam Feaman, 40, was charged Wednesday in connection with an arrest that was caught on camera on Aug. 14, 2017.

Charging documents said Jamal White was having his car towed on the 1500 block of Locust Street when he came out of his apartment to find out why. Feaman told White he was under arrest.

White was backing away from Feaman when Feaman hit him in the head twice with his flashlight, which was caught on cell phone video and posted on Facebook. Medical records show the victim suffered a broken jaw.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said the officer was immediately suspended from the force, and the department is cooperating in the investigation. Feaman turned himself in Thursday morning and The St. Louis Police Officers Association posted his $30,000 bond shortly after.

On August 22, 2018, the Metropolitan Police Department was notified by the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office that warrants were issued for Assault 2nd Degree, and Armed Criminal Action, against Adam Feaman. The Metropolitan Police Department immediately suspended Feaman from the police force on August 22, 2018. The Metropolitan Police Department fully cooperated with this investigation and is committed to ensuring the men and women of our Department are held to the highest standards. The Department will continue to be vigorous in our efforts to uphold these standards and hold any persons whose actions may compromise the integrity of the organization accountable.

Feaman has been an officer for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department since 2004, and according to a tweet from the department, he was named officer of the year for the 4th District in 2016.

Brian Millikan, a lawyer for Feaman, said he did not have any comments at this time.

White has also filed a lawsuit against the City of St. Louis and Adam Feaman back in April, saying Feaman used deadly force by hitting him in the head with a weapon. The full lawsuit can be seen below:
