ST. LOUIS — Two St. Louis police officers were shot at by a suspect while chasing a stolen vehicle.

According to a report from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the two officers were attempting to stop a fleeing stolen vehicle a little after 11:30 Monday night in the 5000 block of Union Boulevard, when they heard gunshots nearby.  The officers stopped pursuing the stolen vehicle to find out who fired the gunshots.

While investigating, the two officers found a 26-year-old man standing at a bus stop at Union Boulevard and Lillian Avenue. The officers asked the man if he knew where the shots had come from, and he told the officers he had heard them from across the street near a Family Dollar store. While talking to the man, the officers noticed a gun sitting next to him.

The report said the officers tried to do a "pedestrian check" on the man, but he ran. Police ran after the man briefly, before he was caught and taken into custody.

A witness at the scene told police that they had seen the man point a gun and fire shots at the officers'  patrol car as they drove by after the stolen vehicle.

No one was injured in the incident.
