Upcoming St. Louis public town hall addresses criminal justice issues

ST. LOUIS — Missouri State Representative Kimberly-Ann Collins of St. Louis City is hosting the 2024 Criminal Justice Policy Town Hall. 

It's in partnership with the Missouri Department of Connections, St. Louis University Criminology and Criminal Justice Program, and the MacArthur Justice Center.

Collins said the Department of Corrections will be there to engage in conversation and address prison conditions. The goal is to bring law enforcement and communities together, enhance public trust, address issues and create actionable reforms.

The town hall is expected to have more than 100 attendees. Audience members will be able to participate in discussions and Q&A sessions. 

Resources tables will be available in the lobby, as well.

Here are the topics for this year's town hall:

  • Death Penalty/Capital Punishment
  • New ACA Law
  • Wrongful Convictions & Conviction Integrity Units
  • Re-entry Services
  • Legislative Efforts and Updates, including:
    • Freestanding AG Right to Appeal
    • Geriatric Sentencing Reform & Good Time Credit for Parole Relief
    • Department of Corrections Oversight
    • Life Without Parole (LWOP)
    • The Clean Slate Act
    • Voting rights for individuals on probation and parole

The event will be held Saturday, Nov. 23, from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Link Auditorium, located at 4504 Westminster Place in St. Louis.
