OVERLAND, Mo. — An employee of a Wendy's in Overland attacked a customer after an argument in the restaurant's drive-thru earlier this week, police said.

According to a probable cause statement, Overland police officers responded to the restaurant in the 8900 block of Page Avenue on Monday for a "fight in progress" in the parking lot.

The customer who was attacked told officers after he got into an argument with employee Leon Johnson that Johnson walked outside and punched him through the driver's side window.

The customer then grabbed a hammer and got out of his car. He swung it at Johnson to try to protect his car. Johnson then got in the customer's car and drove off, police said.

A short time later, according to court documents, Johnson returned to the restaurant and hit the customer with the car, knocking the hammer out of his hand. Johnson then got out of the car, picked up the hammer and began to hit the car's front windshield.

The customer suffered a "laceration on his lip and multiple contusions to his face," police said.

When police tried to arrest Johnson, they said he resisted and bit two officers.

It's unclear what the men were arguing about.

Johnson, 26, of St. Louis, faces one count each of first-degree assault, third-degree assault, tampering with a motor vehicle, second-degree property damage and resisting arrest, and two counts of fourth-degree assault. All of the charges are felonies.

Johnson was being held at the St. Louis County Justice Center on a $50,000 cash-only bond.
