COLLINSVILLE, Ill. — A 64-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder Monday after allegedly stabbing his wife and shooting her in the head Saturday in Collinsville, Illinois.

The Madison County State's Attorney's Office charged Robert Doll, 67, with one count each of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated battery.

According to the Collinsville Police Department, shortly after 6:30 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to the 1000 block of Lafayette Court in Collinsville after the department received a 911 call from a neighbor who reported that a woman was outside of their apartment building screaming for help and that she'd been stabbed.

When officers arrived, they found the woman covered in blood. She told officers that she'd been stabbed by her husband multiple times and shot in the head. She told officers her husband was still inside the apartment building.

Officers helped the woman into an ambulance that took her to a St. Louis-area hospital for treatment. Police said she is expected to survive her injuries and make a full recovery.

Several law enforcement agencies, including Collinsville police, surrounded the apartment building, believing Doll was still inside., but Doll had left the building and drove off in an attempt to evade arrest. He was found and arrested the next day in Maryland Heights, Missouri.

The Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services Unit helped process the scene.

Doll was being held in the Madison County Jail and awaits a court date.
