'School safety is a shared responsibility': Student arrested after teen reported school threat

The investigation is still ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call the cooperative at 314-499-6090.
A water main break near Normandy High School Tuesday morning forced administrators to dismiss students early.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — A student was taken into custody and charged as a minor after police said the student made an online threat against Normandy High School.

According to a press release from the North County Police Cooperative, the student was charged with one count of making terroristic threats. The press release did not say when the threats were made.

According to the release, the student who was later arrested threatened a school shooting "in the immediate future" in an online post. A student at the school reported the threatening post to their parent who then reported it to police.

Investigators with the North County Police Cooperative then worked with the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office and the St. Louis County Juvenile Office to secure the charge against the student. The press release did not name or provide any other information about the student because they were a juvenile.

The press release said they also worked with the school district and will continue to work with the district to provide additional safety measures at the school.

"The NCPC would like to remind everyone that if you see something - say something," the press release said. "School safety is a shared responsibility."

Corporal Benjamin Santoyo with the North County Police Cooperative's Bureau of Criminal Investigations said the number of threats being made against area schools is "an epidemic." He said the department takes all threats seriously and investigates them as such.

The investigation is still ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call the cooperative at 314-499-6090.
