ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said a man has been arrested and charged in the kidnapping and death of a Clayton woman.

Anjuan Mosby, 43, has a staggering 20 charges which include first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping, two counts of robbery, eight counts of armed criminal action, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Police said he is also facing a federal charge of kidnapping resulting in death.

Police said Mosby was arrested and charged in connection with the murder of Michelle Hampton. On Wednesday, Hampton was kidnapped in Clayton and found shot to death hours later in St. Louis.

Police said investigators believe the suspect and victim knew each other, but the department did not elaborate on what their relationship was.

Family described the harrowing moments they chased Michelle's car, as they said they saw a masked gunman inside her car with another man in a truck following close behind.

Michelle's sister Samantha said she saw Michelle held at gunpoint and forced to drive to various locations from Clayton to St. Louis, including ATMs, where she said the men made her withdraw cash. As she was on the phone with 911, Samantha said the truck tried to run her off the road, and said the man in the truck shot at her car with Michelle's sons inside.

In a probable cause statement, police said surveillance video showed the kidnapping and several bank transactions before Hampton was taken to an alley on Greer Avenue, where she was shot and killed. Police said the shooting was also captured on surveillance.

In the statement, police said after Mosby was given his Miranda rights, he admitted to being the passenger in Michelle's car, firing shots at Samantha's car, and to shooting and killing Michelle. Police said he also admitted to making attempts to have Michelle withdraw money.

Police said Mosby will be taken to the St. Louis City Justice Center. A judge ordered Mosby to be held with no bond.

Mosby's court appearance has not been scheduled yet.
