Police: Man fleeing from officers severely injures ice skating coach

Brandon Dorsey was charged with second-degree assault and resisting arrest.

ST. LOUIS — Prosecutors charged a man who allegedly hit a woman and caused life-changing injuries.

On Dec. 16, police said  Maria de Lourdes Solorio Gumersell was broadsided by a car driven by Brandon Marcell Dorsey. He was trying to flee from officers at the time.

Dorsey, 21, was charged with one count each of second-degree assault and resisting arrest, both felonies.

According to a probable cause statement, police tried to pull over a Chrysler 300 that matched the description of a car that fled police on Dec. 5.

Dorsey drove at a high speed weaving in and out of traffic, the statement said.

Police said Gumersell was hit as Dorsey ran a red light. He crashed the car at North Market Street and North Grand Boulevard.

Gumersell suffered multiple fractures.

Dorsey was being held in the St. Louis City Justice Center without bond.
