ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — A teenager died days after being shot in north St. Louis County, police said.
According to the St. Louis County Police Department, officers responded to a shooting shortly after 1 p.m. on June 27 in the 10600 block of Moidart Circle.
Officers found a 17-year-old suffering an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead on June 30.
Police later identified him as Khalil Stanley.
St. Louis County police said a 15-year-old was charged with involuntary manslaughter and was being held at the St. Louis County Family Court. His identity had not been released.
The investigation was ongoing as of Monday.
“I have lived in this neighborhood for seven years. I can say in the past two years the gunfire has gotten worse. We heard shots morning, noon. The shooting that happened last Thursday is the worst I’ve ever seen because it’s too close,” LaKeesha Hill said.
Hills said on Sunday, they learned that Stanley “died at a hospital.” She said her son knew both boys and went to Riverview High School with them.
“All three would be juniors in the fall," Hill said. "It’s just so sad. I have lots of concerns about our youth. We need to still have some type of community for our children. We must make the community better. That’s the only way it's going to get better for our youth’s sake. I’m sick of all these shootings. Our young people are killing each other over senseless things, and it just has to stop."
“I agree in the last few years things have gotten worse out here," said Devese Ursery, another concerned parent in Glasgow Village. "I think more parents need to do a better job taking control of their kids. These kids today are walking around here fighting and shooting each other. I can tell just this afternoon when I was driving home, I saw a young guy, probably no more than 17 years old, and he was just walking down the street, holding a gun in his hand in public. Many of these kids just don’t respect themselves, their parents or the police."
“I’m moving at the end of the month. I must protect my children and grandchildren. The violence is just too much for me,” Hill said.
