16-year-old dies after being shot in north St. Louis

The teen's death adds to the 24 murders so far this year in District 6, which is worse than the previous year, according to SLMPD's crime report.

ST. LOUIS — A teen died from a bullet-related injury Sunday afternoon in St. Louis, police said.

St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department sent officers from District 6 to a call about a shooting at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday at West Florissant and Thrush avenues, according to a post on X.

Officers arrived on the scene where they found the 16-year-old boy in an alley with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead within an hour, police said.

It is unclear what led to the gun violence at this time. 

According to the SLMPD crime report, the 16-year-old's death adds to the 24 murders so far this year in District 6, which is worse than the previous year.  Sunday's fatal gun violence also contributes to the increase in shootings (5% increase year-to-date) and murder victims (7% increase) compared to 2023.

SLMPD shared that the investigation now belongs to its Homicide Division.

The Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis has the Neighborhood Healing Network, which serves people who have experienced crime, violence or been the victim of an incident that caused trauma.

The Bullet Related Injury Clinic (BRIC) is a community-based clinic in St. Louis that helps people heal after they have been injured by a bullet. The BRIC was established to help people who are discharged from the emergency department after being shot.
