TROY, Mo. — It's been busier than ever in Troy, Missouri.
Mayor Ron Sconce told 5 On Your Side, "We're growing quickly over the last 10 years. It's just exploded and people are coming here because it is a nice community."
Their police department has been busy too.
"Any death that is sudden is a tragedy and we have our share," Sconce said.
Early Thursday morning, the Troy Police Department investigated a shooting death on the 100 block of Melody Lane.
Police told 5 On Your Side it was a possible suicide.
Beyond this tragedy, there have been several other serious crimes within weeks.
"We had just one prior to this, we had another shooting death not long ago. No connection, unfortunate tragedies," Sconce said.
On New Year's Eve, 16-year-old Matthew Robinson was shot and killed on Dodson Road.
A spokesperson with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office said the investigation is still ongoing.
On Dec. 16th, Troy police said 25-year-old Elijah David Dalton was shot and killed on Whitetail Crossing. At the time, police shared there was an identified person of interest in police custody for further investigation.
Sconce told 5 On Your Side he is confident in his city.
"I don't see a real uptick, no small town of our size wants any. When you have two within the few months, it raises eyebrows. I want to reassure everyone that these are isolated incidents. It's tragic and unfortunate that we've had them close together," Sconce added.
The city he represents is close to his heart.
"We moved here when I was 4 and got into the political arena in 2010. It's a great town and I thought if I could contribute to it, I would," Sconce shared.
With more people moving into his hometown, he wants to continue making it a happy home.
Sconce said, "Anytime you see the influx in population, you're going to see an uptick in the element that could cause more crime. We've expanded the force and added six officers over the last three years. We're taking steps trying to stay ahead of that."
