ST. CHARLES, Mo. — A candlelight vigil was held Sunday night to remember the four people killed in St. Charles late Friday night.
The vigil was at 6:45 p.m. at Willie Harris Elementary School, where Jonathan and Zoe Kasten went to school. The children were two of the victims in the homicide.
A Facebook event created for Sunday’s vigil stated, “Let’s come together as a Harris family during this tragically dark time to share memories, hugs, songs, prayers, poems or just thoughts and words in honor of a family stripped away from us too soon.”
Eight-year-old Zoe, 10-year-old Jonathan, Kate Kasten and 61-year-old Jane Moeckel were fatally shot late Friday at a house in the 100 block of Whetstone Drive. Kate was the mother of the children. Moeckel was Kate’s mother and the grandmother of the children.
Friends of the family, neighbors, classmates and school leaders took turns speaking to the crowd about the victims.
The crowd filled the school’s parking lot.

Richard “Darren” Emery, 46, has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder and 11 other charges. He was Kate’s boyfriend, St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney Tim Lohmar said Saturday.
Emery also is accused of getting into a shootout with police and trying to carjack a woman and then stabbing her. The woman survived.
Police found Emery bleeding at the QuikTrip off First Capital Drive early Saturday and took him into custody.
