CAHOKIA HEIGHTS, Ill. — A woman was charged Friday after her acquaintance was found shot to death inside a Cahokia Heights home earlier this week.

The St. Clair County State's Attorney's Office charged Vermonica L. Turley, 56, with first-degree murder in the death of 68-year-old Stephan L. Monigan.

The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis, which handled the investigation, said Cahokia Heights police responded Wednesday morning to the 2000 block of Maple Tree Lane after a 911 caller reported a man was found dead inside a home. Officers arrived to find Monigan dead with gunshot wounds.

Turley, a known acquaintance of Monigan's, was taken into custody at the scene.
