4 St. Louis area schools receive National Blue Ribbon honors

The National Blue Ribbon distinction is given out each year to select schools across the country.

ST. LOUIS — Four metro area schools have been awarded the National Blue Ribbon distinction from the U.S. Department of Education, it was announced Monday.

Three elementary schools and one high school were chosen as schools that excel in academic performance.

The local schools receiving that distinction are:

  • Missouri – Clayton – Meramec Elementary School, School District of Clayton.
  • Missouri – Clayton – Ralph M. Captain Elementary School, School District of Clayton.
  • Missouri – St Louis – Bristol Elementary School, Webster Groves School District.
  • Missouri – St Louis – Metro Academic and Classical High School, Saint Louis Public Schools.

“The National Blue Ribbon Schools Award is a testament to the exceptional achievements of students and educators at each of these schools,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona. “The 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools are raising the bar for our nation’s students, serving as models for effective teaching and intentional collaboration in their schools and communities.

Four other state schools were also honored.

  • Missouri – Essex – Richland Elementary School, Richland R-I.
  • Missouri – Hannibal – Oakwood Elementary School, Hannibal 60.
  • Missouri – Independence – Williams Yates Elementary School, Blue Springs R-IV.
  • Missouri – Lee's Summit – Voy Spears, Jr. Elementary School, Blue Springs R-IV. 

According to the Department of Education, schools that are recognized, excel in “student performance data including assessment results, student subgroup performance and graduation rates.”
