O'FALLON, Mo. — The superintendent for Fort Zumwalt School District is retiring at the end of the 2024-25 school year.

Superintendent Paul Myers joined the district in 1999, eventually serving as the principal for South Middle School before moving into district level administration roles.

“Although my time as superintendent will be relatively short, I have been fortunate to work at the district level for the past 16 years.” Myers said in his letter to staff and the community. “During that time, I have worked with an incredible group of school board members and fellow administrators. I am profoundly thankful to our current Board of Education and the district leadership team for the support they provided to me as superintendent.”

Myers took on the superintendent job after Bernard DuBray retired in 2023, who served 38 years in the role.

“Our mission will remain the same, we’ve worked really hard to develop the Continues School Improvement Plan (CSIP) and keep the focus of our future going that way,” Erica Powers, President of the FZSD Board of Education said in a statement. “The person who fills Paul's shoes will have to be ready to help us keep growing and expanding and be sure that everything is running the way that it should.”

The school board has not named a replacement yet, but in his letter Myers said "I felt it was important to make this decision early so as to allow plenty of time to find my replacement and to provide for a smooth transition."
