ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. — The Francis Howell School District announced it will be closed and students will learn remotely Tuesday and Wednesday due to "unexpected network activity."
According to a letter sent out to families Monday, the school district said it observed unexpected activity within its network that disrupted computer systems, including those that are critical for teaching and keeping students safe.
"Upon learning of the activity, we responded quickly to confirm the security of our systems and to work toward restoring full functionality to our systems as soon as possible," the letter said. "Specifically, we took steps to ensure that all connected systems remain offline while our investigation proceeds and are utilizing workaround procedures during the downtime to enable business efforts to continue."
The school district's technology team has been working to restore the internet service to all buildings, but the decision was made to move classes to remote learning.
An investigation into the activity is ongoing, the letter said.
All FHSD schools will be closed Tuesday, Feb. 20, and Wednesday, Feb. 21, and classes will be taught remotely.
Vacation Station will also be closed on both days.
After-school sports and activities will continue as scheduled, the letter said.
A decision regarding in-person classes for the rest of the week will be made by 5 p.m. Wednesday. The school district said a full week of remote learning is possible if the systems had not been restored.
