ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — A gun was found in a student's locker Monday at Lutheran North High School, a private Christian school located at 5401 Lucas and Hunt Road.
School leaders were conducting a routine search of lockers and locker rooms when a weapon was found, Principal and Head of School Tim Brackman told 5 On Your Side.
The gun was found unloaded and "may not have even been operable," Brackman wrote Monday in a letter sent to parents. The weapon reportedly belonged to an 18-year-old male student at the school who has since been arrested.
St. Louis County police were called at about 12:40 p.m. to investigate the "isolated incident," Brackman said. Charges against the student have not yet been filed.
Brackman assured parents that the school takes "the safety of our entire community very seriously" and that "violence at Lutheran North is infrequent and never tolerated."
As a precaution, Brackman said school leaders will continue conducting frequent safety checks.
"This was an unusual, disappointing event and one I have never experienced at Lutheran North," Brackman wrote to parents. "The process took place in such a way that the school day was not disturbed in the least and students were not even aware. Going forward, we will continue being proactive and will trust God to provide His ongoing protection."
