Rockwood School District offering virtual learning option for next school year

Students and families are being asked to decide by March 21 if they plan to return to in-person instruction, or opt for the Rockwood Online option next school year

ST. LOUIS — One of the largest school districts in the St. Louis area will be offering a virtual option for students next school year, regardless of the status of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Rockwood School District said it has learned over the past year that some students and families have found they prefer learning in a virtual environment, and that led to the decision to offer an online option for the 2021-2022 school year.

Students and families are being asked to decide by March 21 if they would prefer to return to in-person instruction, or opt for the Rockwood Online option for next school year.

The school district said there will not be options to switch between online and in-person throughout the 2021-2022 school year, and the district is basing staffing on which option students select. If a student does not fill out the new option form, the default option will be in-person learning.

Rockwood Online will include the same content as seated courses, but will have some pre-recorded lessons for high schoolers.
