ST. LOUIS — Four St. Louis area schools were honored for their academic achievement and are now in the running for national honors.
The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education announced its eight Missouri Gold Star Schools for 2024, four of which were in St. Louis or St. Louis County. The St. Louis area winners were:
- Bristol Elementary School, Webster Groves School District
- Meramec Elementary School, Clayton School District
- Metro Academic and Classical High School, St. Louis Public School District
- Ralph M. Captain Elementary School, Clayton School District
“Congratulations to the students, teachers, and staff members of each of these schools for earning this recognition,” Commissioner of Education Margie Vandeven said in a press release. “These schools demonstrate that academic excellence is possible while striving to meet the needs of every student in their school — and we’re so proud of their hard work.”
DESE said the schools receiving the honor must be in the top 15 percent of all public schools in the state based on MAP and End-of-Course assessments and multiple other criteria.
The U.S. Department of Education’s Blue Ribbon Schools will be announced this fall.
The other four Missouri Gold Star Schools for 2024 are:
- Oakwood Elementary School, Hannibal 60 School District
- Richland Elementary School, Richland R-I School District
- Voy Spears, Jr. Elementary School, Blue Springs R-IV School District
- William Yates Elementary School, Blue Springs R-IV School District
