LOS ANGELES — The Dude abides.
And he might be back—at least on Super Bowl Sunday.
Actor Jeff Bridges, who famously portrayed Jeff “The Dude” Lebowski in ‘The Big Lebowski’, released a 15-second teaser trailer online Thursday.
It starts with Bob Dylan’s ‘The Man in Me’—the same song that strums at the beginning of the 1998 film. (And also the second Bob Dylan song featured in a Super Bowl Sunday-related ad)
And in steps The Dude, wearing sandals, patterned pants and his famous scruffy cardigan sweater. He peers into the camera over his sunglasses and smirks.
The next scene shows a tumbleweed blow across the screen revealing the date 2.3.19, which is also the same day the Patriots and Rams will play in the Super Bowl.
“Can’t be living in the past, man. Stay tuned,” is the only caption with the teaser.
So, what exactly is this teaser alluding to? Some people online are speculating another Big Lebowski movie is in the works, while others say it's just a promo for a Super Bowl commercial.
Either way, the short clip got a lot of people excited online, including one guy on Facebook who wrote, “The Dude is needed in these troubling times we are in today. All this aggression will not stand, man.”
But news of The Dude’s possible return isn’t exactly tying the whole internet together, though.
A guy who goes by the name Jesus (not Quintana) Christ on Twitter said, “Y’all do realize there is zero chance this is anything more than just the one commercial, right? Movies aren’t made in secret and movies like Big Lebowski would not buy Super Bowl ad time. Happy Thursday!”
Yeah, well, that’s just, like, your opinion, man.
