Flooding cancels strawberry festival, but Kimmswick still open for business

The city's shops and restaurants remain open.

KIMMSWICK, Mo. — Flooding has forced Kimmswick to cancel its annual Strawberry Festival scheduled for Saturday.

Mayor Phil Stang said the festival can bring 50,000 people to the town. And with two of the main roads into town closed, he says it's just not safe to bus that many people into Kimmswick.

The loss of the festival is a blow to the city's budget. Mayor Stang said Kimmswick depends on it's two annual festivals for about 25% of the city's budget.

But Mayor Stang wants everyone to know that the town is dry and shops and restaurants are still open.

Historic Kimmswick can still be reached by an alternate route off Highway 61 at Montebello Road.
