Mike Bush: Game 7 was one of the best nights of my career

For more than 50 years it was ‘wait til next year’ and now next year is finally here.

ST. LOUIS — I don't know about you but I'm exhausted... but the best kind of exhausted.

The Blues winning the Stanley Cup Wednesday night was one of the best night's of my 40 plus years in local TV.

I'm most happy for the players and coaches who somehow went from the worst to the Blues first Stanley Cup ever, overcoming adversity time after time.

But I'm also happy for former players like Bob Plager and Al Macinnis and Bernie Federko and Brett Hull... and so many more.

They are not from St. Louis but after playing here, they chose to make this city their homes.

Because it seems once a Blue, always a Blue.

And I am also thinking about former Blues owner Mike Shanahan who not only saved the team from leaving town, he did everything he could to bring us a cup and couldn't quite get it done.

What a party he must be having in heaven with Jack Quinn and Ron Caron and Dan Kelly and so many others. .

And what about you? The fan. And your father and mother and grandfather and grandmother.

For more than 50 years it was "wait til next year" and now next year is finally here.

No fans in all of sports are more local than Blues fans.

What happened on Wednesday night was not just about that night. It's something we'll remember tomorrow and for many tomorrows to come.
