ST. LOUIS — Coronavirus numbers in St. Louis area hospitals remained low Tuesday, including a record-low number of deaths.
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Pandemic Task Force, the seven-day average for admissions decreased while average hospitalizations and deaths remained the same. The seven-day average for deaths reached a low of three on Monday and remained the same on Tuesday. Only one new death was reported Tuesday.
The following data are the combined figures from the four major health systems (BJC HealthCare, Mercy, SSM Health, St. Luke’s Hospital) that are part of the task force, for March 16.
- New hospital admissions (data lagged two days) decreased - from 27 yesterday to 25 today.
- The seven-day moving average of hospital admissions (data lagged two days) decreased – from 37 yesterday to 36 today.
- The seven-day moving average of hospitalizations remained the same at 227 today.
- Inpatient confirmed COVID positive hospitalizations decreased - from 233 yesterday to 227 today.
- Inpatient suspected COVID positive hospitalizations increased – from 34 yesterday to 36 today.
- The number of confirmed COVID positive patients in the ICUs increased – from 67 yesterday to 68 today.
- The number of confirmed COVID positive patients on ventilators increased – from 42 yesterday to 44 today.
- The number of COVID deaths remained the same at 1 today.
- The seven-day moving average of COVID deaths remained the same at 3 today.
- Across the system hospitals, 38 patients have been discharged, bringing the cumulative number of COVID-19 patients discharged to 19,978.
- Today, staffed bed hospital capacity is at 82%, an average across our task force hospitals. The ICU’s are at 83% of their total staffed bed capacity.
In Missouri, the state's health department reported 484,124 cases and 8,350 deaths as of Tuesday, a single-day increase of 376 cases and 40 deaths.
The department also reported 4,673,103 PCR tests, an increase of 9,578.
According to the CDC, 1,907,859 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered, a single-day increase of 10,776 doses. According to the CDC, 19.8% of people have received at least one dose — up from 19.6% Monday —and 10.6% of people are fully vaccinated — up from 10.5% Monday. CDC data is ahead of the data provided by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services' vaccine dashboard.
In Illinois, the state's health department reported 1,212,110 cases and 20,973 deaths as of Tuesday, a single-day increase of 1997 cases and 18 deaths.
The department also reported 19,221,483 PCR tests, an increase of 51240.
According to the CDC, 4,379,055 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered, a single-day increase of 81,132 doses. According to the CDC, 22.5% of people have received at least one dose — up from 22.2% Monday —and 12.2% of people are fully vaccinated — up from 11.9% Monday. CDC data is ahead of the data provided by the Illinois Department of Public Health's vaccine dashboard.
