St. Louis task force reports fewest COVID-19 deaths on record

The task force reported a seven-day average of three, the lowest since the task force started reporting death data on Oct. 7, 2020

ST. LOUIS — Coronavirus numbers at St. Louis area hospitals have remained mostly consistent in the last few weeks, but the seven-day average for deaths in area hospitals has reached an all-time low.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Pandemic Task Force reported a seven-day average of three, the lowest since the task force started reporting death data on Oct. 7, 2020.

The following data are the combined figures from the four major health systems (BJC HealthCare, Mercy, SSM Health, St. Luke’s Hospital) that are part of the task force, for March 15.

  • New hospital admissions (data lagged two days) decreased - from 36 yesterday to 27 todayThere were 40 new hospital admissions on Saturday.
  • The seven-day moving average of hospital admissions (data lagged two days) remained the same at 37 today. It was also 37 on both Saturday and Sunday. 
  • The seven-day moving average of hospitalizations increased – from 226 yesterday to 227 today. It was also 226 on Saturday.
  • Inpatient confirmed COVID positive hospitalizations increased - from 221 yesterday to 233 today. There were 229 confirmed COVID positive hospitalizations on Saturday.
  • Inpatient suspected COVID positive hospitalizations decreased – from 37 yesterday to 34 today. There were 23 inpatients suspected COVID positive hospitalizations on Saturday.
  • The number of confirmed COVID positive patients in the ICUs increased – from 66 on both Saturday and Sunday to 67 today.
  • The number of confirmed COVID positive patients on ventilators increased – from 39 on Saturday to 42 both yesterday and today.
  • The number of COVID deaths decreased – from 2 on Saturday, to 1 Sunday and 1 today.
  • The seven-day moving average of COVID deaths decreased – from 4 yesterday to 3 today.
  • Across the system hospitals, 88 patients have been discharged over the past three days, bringing the cumulative number of COVID-19 patients discharged to 19,940.
  • Today, staffed bed hospital capacity is at 78%, an average across our task force hospitals. The ICUs are at 81% of their total staffed bed capacity.
