ST. LOUIS — The City of St. Louis is ramping up its COVID-19 vaccination clinics.
During Lyda Krewson’s Wednesday briefing, she announced that a mass vaccination event would take place at America’s Center.
The clinic will administer thousands of Moderna shots Saturday and Sunday.
So far, 61,570 shots have been given to people in the city.
"We're getting more and more and more vaccine, and the state is getting more and more vaccine," Krewson said.
The clinic organizers will use the city's vaccine registry to sent out appointment invitations, with priority going to those who have been waiting pre-Tier 3.
Krewson expects within 30-60 days, the problem will no longer be about vaccine supply but staffing. She expressed concerns of burnout for existing staff. She is asking retired nurses and other medical professionals to volunteer for these clinics.
During the briefing, Krewson also shared the latest COVID-19 numbers in St. Louis.
The city is averaging 30 new cases a day, that’s around 10 cases per 100,000 people.
She said it’s concerning to see the numbers are creeping up a little.
Krewson continued to push for social distancing, mask wearing and getting vaccinated when eligible.
