Ice sculptures adorn Delmar Loop for annual carnival

More than 50 ice sculptures lined the Delmar Loop Saturday as part of the annual Ice Carnival.

ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – More than 50 ice sculptures lined the Delmar Loop Saturday as part of the annual Ice Carnival.

The free, family-friendly event features works of "ice" outside Delmar Loop businesses. All of them were designed and carved by Harvey Russell of Kirkwood based Ice Visions.

He says ice sculpting is both a magical and memorable art form.

"A lot of people have a lot of memories about ice, whether it's storms or sculptures," Russell said. "When I was in the culinary world, we'd do these big events for wedding and stuff. And no one would remember what they ate. But they'd always remember what the sculpture was for the rest of their lives and that's what pulls me to it."

Some of the sculptures took him and his crew more than 5 hours to complete!
