Indy 500 race moves to NBC after 54 years with ABC

Indianapolis Motor Speedway Historian stops in St. Louis during his nationwide tour.

ST. LOUIS — IndyCar has signed a new media rights deal with NBC Sports Group that will drastically grow its exposure and move the Indianapolis 500 to a different network for the first time since 1965.

Longtime Indianapolis Motor Speedway Historian Donald Davidson was on a nationwide Indy 500 tour to talk about the exciting news and share the history behind the race. 

Davidson visited every NBC Affiliate before the Indy 500 race and his last stop was here in St. Louis.

He is thought to be the only full-time race historian in the country and has remarkable knowledge of the history of the Indianapolis 500.

Davidson said they decided to go on tour to visit every NBC Affiliate to give the stations a big welcoming since 2019 will be the first year the Indy 500 will be televised on NBC.

His expertise is quite impressive as he has been involved with the track since the 60's and has been the historian since the 90's. 

The is the 103rd Indianapolis 500 race which will take place on Sunday, May 26.
