ST. PETERS, Mo. — 370 Lakeside Park is one of the city’s gems. It’s a 140-acre park with a lake and giant pavilion.
Tim Myers, the Director of Utilities for City of St. Peters, said, “They can rent kayaks, canoes, paddle boats. We also have a dog park.”
During the summer, Friday night concerts are held in the pavilion. Those events attract several hundred people. Lakeside Park is also home to Celebrate St. Peters which attracts thousands of people.
However, this year’s mass flooding has forced the park to close.
“This area got inundated with water,” said Myers.
The picnic tables, park benches, chairs and tables are all stacked outside of a shed far away from the park grounds to escape the rising river waters.
Myers said all Friday night concerts and even scheduled weddings all had to be moved because the standing water has made the park unusable.
The Friday night concerts have been held at City Hall but they don’t have the space to accommodate as many people as the pavilion can.
The clean-up could take a while.
“It’s the recovery effort to try and get the grass growing again. Mitigate any kind of tree damage we have,” said Myers.
On Saturday, July 27, the city is asking for volunteers to help with the cleanup efforts.
From 8-11 a.m. volunteers can help pickup debris left behind from the water. Gloves and trash bags will be provided.
