LEMAY, Mo. — The recent flooding from the River des Peres has devastated sections of Lemay. The water has finally receded, but multiple homes and businesses are damaged.
Pat Hunt and his wife live along River City Boulevard, which parallels the river. Their entire yard was underwater last week.
“It literally had filled our basement with like five feet of water,” said Hunt.
Their yard is now littered with items they tried to salvage. Hunt said they can’t even live in their home right now because they don’t have gas or hot water. They’ve lived in this home for 16 years and have never seen anything like this.
“It started with the sewer back up. Then with all the rain, the water had nowhere to go so there so it was pushing through the sewers and then when it crested it just all came in and into the basement,” Hunt said.
Several other homes and business are dealing with the same clean-up. Many people told 5 On Your Side their insurance won’t cover the expenses. Dumpsters have been placed around the neighborhood, so residents can discard items that have been ruined by flooding.
There will be a meeting Thursday at 3 p.m. at the local VFW for residents to ask questions about flood relief help.
