1 killed when truck strikes train in Sauget, Illinois

An older model F-150 pickup truck struck the railroad crossing gate.

SAUGET, Ill. — A person was killed Saturday morning when a pickup truck struck a train in Sauget, Illinois.

Sauget Police Chief James Jones said around 2 a.m. the driver of an older model blue Ford F-150 pickup truck was traveling south on Route 3 near Monsanto Avenue.

Jones said the driver ignored the railroad crossing arm and struck the gate and the train. It burst into flames.

The coroner was identifying the victim.

Officials monitored the scene for impacts to the public and reported the scene was clear.
