LEMAY, Mo. — A 16-year-old who shot and killed in south St. Louis County Wednesday night has been identified.

At around 9:15 p.m., St. Louis County police responded to a home in the 800 block of Vegas Drive for a call for a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found 16-year-old Robert Dorsey Jr. suffering from a gunshot wound to his torso.

He was taken to a hospital where he died a short time later.

“We need prayers, we need anybody that knows anything to come forward, we need closure for this, he needs justice. He was 16 he did not deserve this,” said Cara Hibdon, Robert “RJ” Dorsey Jr’s aunt.

Hibdon said he had come home after dropping his cousin off that night. She said he gave his sister a hug and said he would be back but was shot at least five times as he walked out the door.

“I kept saying on the way to the hospital, ‘He’ll be fine, he’s gonna pull through, he’ll be fine,’ and to get to the hospital to meet my niece only to hear that he was gone was the most devastating thing I could hear,” said Hibdon.

Hibdon said RJ was a standout basketball player at Bayless high school, an active church member and generally well-loved by all. He had just turned 16 years old on Friday and celebrated with his friends over the weekend at the Lake of the Ozarks.

“I keep thinking he’s going to walk back through the door with his big ole fuzzy afro that I kept trying to tell him to cut his hair, I was like ‘RJ cut you hair’ and I keep thinking he’s coming home, I keep thinking he’s gonna walk in the door that he’s just at a friend’s house,” she said.

“It’s hard to process that I’m never going to hug my nephew again, I’m never going to get to smell him again, I’m never going to get to see him play basketball again.”

Anyone with information on this incident should call St. Louis County police at 636-529-8210 or CrimeStoppers at 1-866-371TIPS(8477).

The family has also started a GoFundMe which to this point has raised $4,392 of the $7,000 goal. There will also be a candlelight vigil at St. Ann Park Friday at 8 p.m.
