ALTON, Ill. — A Sunday morning crash in Alton left a man dead.
Shane P. Liley, the chief of investigations for the Madison County Coroners Office, identified the man who died in the two-car crash as Anthony Geisen, 20, of Godfrey.
Geisen was driving northbound in a Ford Focus near Henry Street Saturday morning, the coroner's office said. He was passing through the intersection of Landmarks Boulevard around 5:50 a.m. when he was struck on the passenger side by a Freightliner tractor-trailer.
Geisen was treated at the scene by Alton Fire Department paramedics and taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. An autopsy determined he died of blunt head trauma.
The tractor-trailer driver was not injured and refused medical services at the scene.
The cause of the crash is still being investigated by the Alton Police Department, the Illinois State Police and the Madison County Coroners Office.
Funeral arrangements will be handled by Paynic Home for Funerals in East Alton.
