2 dead, 2 in critical condition after Ferguson car accident

Police are investigating whether the car was chased

FERGUSON, Mo. — Two men were killed, and two men were injured after a car crash. It happened near the intersection of Canfield and Windward around 6 p.m. on Feb. 14.

A car carrying the four men struck a tree, according to a news release from Ferguson police.

One man was ejected and hit the pavement. Another was trapped, but emergency crews were able to free him. Both of them were taken to the hospital in critical condition, according to the release.

First responders found two other people inside the car. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police identified one of the men who was killed as Avner Rogers, 25. Officers are not releasing the name of the other man who died because they are still working to notify family members.

“Car was completely mangled so we don’t know if anybody was wearing seatbelts,” said Ferguson Police Chief Jason Armstrong.

Police said witnesses reported the car involved in the accident may been chased by an “older” white vehicle. Armstrong said the men were not being chased by Ferguson officers.
