ST. LOUIS COUNTY — An elderly man and a firefighter both received medical attention in the aftermath of a north St. Louis County house fire early Friday morning.
Just after midnight, an elderly woman reported a fire inside her home on the 9200 block of Longridge, saying she heard crackling and then saw smoke in the basement. When first responders arrived, the woman was waiting at the front door and requested they help rescue her bedridden husband in his upstairs bedroom.
While getting the man out of the house, one of the firefighters received a minor injury from a fall. The firefighter was taken to a hospital for further attention. The elderly man was transported to a nearby hospital for smoke inhalation but was conscious and breathing.
The house was not expected to be a loss.
