LITCHFIELD, Ill. – An investigation is underway after two pieces of ammunition were found in the men’s bathroom at Litchfield High School Wednesday morning.
Shortly before 10 a.m., both Litchfield Middle and High School were placed on a soft lockdown. School officials said the students at both campuses were to be released at 11:15 a.m. for their last day of school. Instead, students were released out of classes early.
In a letter to parents, the high school said it immediately enacted their protocol for the situation for the safety of the students.
“The students were taken to a safe location and parents were contacted. Even though these events can be chaotic, pick up locations were identified and as much information as possible was released to the parents as soon as possible,” the letter to parents said.
It's unclear if anyone is in custody. No other information has been made available.
