ST. LOUIS — Three people were shot in three different shootings across St. Louis over Cinco de Mayo weekend, sending all three victims to the hospital. One of whom died earlier this week.
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the first shooting happened just before 10:30 p.m. Saturday in the 4800 of Minnesota Avenue.
Arriving officers said gunfire struck the man's chest and abdomen. He was rushed to a hospital in an ambulance shortly after and police said his death was imminent.
Police found a suspect in that shooting at the crime scene, and took them into custody. Police did not share the suspect's identity. St. Louis police's Homicide Division was requested and handled the investigation.
In a Thursday update, St. Louis police said the victim died. He was identified the man as 18-year-old Tyler Leeper of O'Fallon, Missouri.
About five minutes later, the second shooting happened just a mile away from the first incident.
A man, 18, told police he was walking west on Walsh Avenue near Wicklow Place when he felt a sharp pain in his buttock.
Police said he ran to a home in the 5100 block of South Compton for help. He was taken to an area hospital shortly after, where he was treated for his gunshot wound. Police did not provide an update on his condition as of Thursday afternoon.
The third shooting happened in the 1800 block of Coleman Street around 11:40 p.m.
A woman, 27, told police she was talking to a friend near North Market and Coleman streets. When she walked away from the conversation, someone followed her and said "Hey, tell your boyfriend something," to get her attention. He then pulled out a gun and demanded her bags.
When she refused, the suspect fired three rounds, striking her once in her left leg, police said. He ran away from the scene.
The victim was taken to a hospital in an ambulance for treatment. Police did not provide an update on her condition as of Thursday afternoon.
