ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — Three staff members at the St. Louis County Jail have been suspended after a man died shortly after being transferred from the jail to state prison earlier this month.
A spokesman for County Executive Sam Page said the suspensions came after Daniel Stout, 31, died less than an hour after he was transferred from St. Louis County jail to a state prison in Bonne Terre on June 11.
St. Francois County Coroner James Coplin says the situation "went downhill" after Stout vomited blood. An autopsy says he died from peritonitis caused by an ulcer that perforated his intestine.
Three other people have died in 2019 after stays in the St. Louis County jail.
Last month, St. Louis County Prosecutor Wesley Bell announced his office would not bring charges against anyone for the deaths of inmates John Shy and Lamar Catchings.
