ST. LOUIS — Four runaway minors ran from a 'possibly' stolen car that crashed while fleeing from police overnight in Lemay, a St. Louis police spokesperson said Monday morning.

Runaways from an out-of-state facility, 16, 15, 14, and 12, were all arrested a short distance away from the crash scene, where the 2018 Hyundai Elantra crashed into a fence and a light post, the spokesperson said.

According to police, the 'possibly' stolen car was spotted by St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department's Real Time Crime Center around midnight using license plate reader technology. RTCC notified detectives with the Anti-Crime Task Force about the vehicle.

ACTF detectives were able to find the vehicle at a Soulard gas station near 7th Street and Russel Boulevard.

"The ACTF was able to spike some of the tires on the vehicle, but it failed to stop for detectives," a spokesperson with St. Louis police said. "The vehicle fled and eventually hit a fence and light post in Lemay."

Police did not say where or when police initially tried to engage the suspects, nor did they say what route the suspects used when they failed to stop for detectives.

"A 14-year-old, 12-year-old, 16-year-old and 15-year-old were all taken to the St. Louis County Juvenile Detention Center. The investigation remains ongoing," the spokesperson said.

More information may be forthcoming further into the investigation. This story will be updated with the latest information as it becomes available.
