The shooting happened minutes before midnight. Police took a person into custody and seized a firearm.

ST. LOUIS — St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department officers took a person into custody after three people were shot late Friday night, a brief written report from police said Saturday morning.

Initially, the shooting was reported to have happened minutes before midnight in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 near E Grand Boulevard, less than four miles from downtown St. Louis.

Later, police said the shooting actually took place in the 1800 block of N 9th Street, less than a mile from downtown St. Louis.

According to the report from police, an 18-year-old man was shot in the head, a 23-year-old man was shot in the leg and a 22-year-old man was shot in the back.

When police arrived to the scene they found the 20-year-old suspect in a car with ballistic damage and the 18-year-old victim.

The 23-year-old victim and the 22-year-old victim told police they saw a group of people and cars gathered when they heard the gunfire fired in their direction and were shot.

The 18-year-old victim was taken to the hospital in an ambulance, police said. The older two victims were also taken to a hospital but not in an ambulance.

The report said all victims were "conscious and breathing."

The report from SLMPD said the suspect was taken into custody and one firearm was seized.
