FENTON, Mo. — Cally Campbell, an 8-year-old from Fenton, Missouri, was recently diagnosed with a rare and aggressive bone cancer: osteosarcoma. Her family started a GoFundMe page back in May seeking the community's help with medical bills and the response exceeded their expectations.
Cally's 3rd-grade friends responded with a lemonade/bracelet stand. The children took the money they earned and gave it to the Campbell family.
"They are not only friends. ...They are so close to almost being family. She has gone through so much in the past three months, I mean not only with chemotherapy but with surgery and it's still gonna be a long road for recovery," organizer Stacey Daly said.
Although the cancer has not spread, Cally still faces challenges. On Aug. 8, Cally's mother, Kacie, shared in an update that her daughter would need to have one leg amputated.
This time Kacie turned to the community again. She was asking for the parents of Cally's classmates to help their children be a support system for Cally at school during this transition.
"She is very nervous but also so excited to be back at school," her mother shared in the GoFundMe update.
The family has received over $5,000 in donations so far.
"We're just grateful she is still alive," Daly said.
If you would like to help this family, "keep praying and sending us encouragement," Kacie wrote in the update.
